Plan a weather-focused flight with SimBrief

Move from a weather-based route choice to a SimBrief plan, with the airports and aircraft already filled in.

BadWx helps you decide where to fly for challenging weather. Its SimBrief link passes your chosen departure airport, destination and aircraft type to SimBrief so you can continue preparing your simulator flight.

1. Choose a route in BadWx

Select your aircraft profile and use the region, flight-time and weather filters to find a suitable session. Compare Severity and Arrival Match, then expand Details to inspect the forecast window and arrival uncertainty.

If you are new to the planner, start with finding bad weather flights in MSFS.

2. Allow time to prepare the flight

Review the preflight allowance shown in Settings and the route's flight time. The default allowance is 40 minutes and is read-only in the public planner. If your preparation takes longer, compare the forecast with your revised arrival time; the original match may no longer apply.

3. Open the route in SimBrief

Use the SimBrief action on the route. The link prefills the origin, destination, an aircraft type matching your profile, and an estimated departure date and time in UTC. Sign in with your Navigraph account; basic SimBrief flight planning is free.

Review the exact aircraft variant and airframe, routing, fuel and timing before generating your plan. For example, BadWx's A320 profile opens SimBrief with A20N selected. Recheck the departure date and time if the route has been open for a while.

The link fills planning fields supported by SimBrief's integration interface; it does not generate the completed plan. SimBrief's route, aircraft performance and wind calculations can produce a different flight time from BadWx's estimate.

4. Recheck the arrival window

Compare your SimBrief arrival time with the adverse weather period in BadWx Details, using UTC for both. Open METAR / TAF to check report times and the forecast covering that arrival. If the plan is longer or shorter, revisit the match. The arrival-weather guide explains the scores and timing limits.

5. Fly with live weather

Use your normal workflow to load the flight plan into MSFS 2020 or 2024 and select live weather for a session based on current conditions. BadWx does not inject weather into MSFS or import a plan directly into your aircraft. The simulator may reproduce the reported conditions differently.

Share the idea

The Share action in Details copies a link to the airport pair. It does not save your aircraft, filters or forecast. The route must still be available and match the other simmer's filters when they open the link.
